So far in fact, that this year there were overseas participants from France and Canada.
Yves Vachey is an Air France pilot who loves working with wood and seeks out courses around the world to feed his passion.
Last summer when holidaying in Australia, he visited Sydney’s Maritime Museum where he heard about Camp Creative and its canoe building course.
“I heard there was something nice happening there so I visited Bellingen on my trip between Sydney and Brisbane,” Yves said.
“Bellingen is ‘superbe’ … very European with all its bars and cafes and the ambience is ‘tres sympath’.”
Yves made his booking, returned and is now sanding and gluing his way towards fulfilling his challenge to have a boat on every continent (he has done courses in USA and Norway).
His main challenge however when he spoke to the Courier Sun was finishing his canoe by Friday afternoon … “I ‘ope it does not sink!”
He plans to leave the canoe here ready for his next visit.
Another overseas guest was Diane Daniel, who extended her visit with her son who lives in Kalang to be part of Camp Creative.
She joined the fabric sculpture course.
