First up, is the Young Farmers’ Challenge. It will be great fun for all the participants - and a real hoot for those watching and cheering. The participants have to complete a series of challenges – with the winners finishing in the fastest time and the safest manner. The winners receive $400 courtesy of the generous major sponsors of this event - Coffs Harbour Toyota and Hyundai – and All Diesel Equipment and Service. There will also be other prizes for all participants.
The challenges for this event will be set on the day but they may include saddling a drum; shearing a sheep (with a coloured chalk); potato throwing; kicking a footy; shaving a balloon; and egg and spoon racing. So if you fancy yourself as a champion potato thrower, why not get a team together? To participate, you must have a team of four people, aged 18 to 35 years. Each team must include both male and female participants and there is an entry fee of $20 per team.
The event will be held on the second day of the Show at 12 noon on Sunday, May 1 in the Main Arena. Entries close on Tuesday, April 26 and forms are available on line or by contacting the show secretary on 0419 124-368.
For more information contact Emily Kenny on 0421 681-391.
Also happening for the first time this year, the show’s opening hours will be extended to 9pm on Saturday night in order to feature the fantastic talents of The Button Collective.
The Button Collective is an exciting folk and bluegrass band from Sydney - and their music combines elements from Australia, Ireland and central Europe, together with fast-paced American Bluegrass. Songwriter Brodie Buttons’ energetic, guitar-driven songs are backed by accordion, double bass, mandolin, banjo, fiddle and rich multi-layered vocal harmonies.
It promises to be a great night of entertainment, so mark it in your calendar now.
Show is on Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1 at the Bellingen Showground.
