Grants of between $2,500 and $10,000 are available through the 2015-16 round of the Community Heritage and Icons Grants programme.
“The Federal Government has up to $337,000 available to provide community groups the opportunity to engage with and raise awareness of places recognised on Australia's National Heritage List, including the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia, which are found within Dorrigo National Park,” Mr Hartsuyker said.
The heritage-listed Gondwana Rainforests of Australia extend in patches from South East Queensland right down to Newcastle and include tracts found in the Dorrigo World Heritage National Park.
“These Gondwana Rainforests include the most extensive areas of sub-tropical rainforest in the world, large areas of warm temperate rainforest and nearly all of the Antarctic beech cool temperate rainforest,” Mr Hartsuyker said.
“It is important to ensure we promote awareness of this and other national treasures and cultural icons to ensure they are appreciated and protected for generations to come,” Mr Hartsuyker said.
Gondwana Rainforests of Australia ranks among the likes of Bondi Beach, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Fraser Island in the 104 sites listed on the National Heritage List across Australia.
“This is an exciting opportunity for the local community to continue to support, enhance and celebrate our North Coast and national heritage,” Mr Hartsuyker.
Applications for funding are open until 22 March 2016.
