Both teams are considered competition heavyweights and the Marlins players are expecting a torrid, tough affair. With the weather predicted to be fine both teams will be exploiting a fast track at SWR Sports Ground in what is undoubtedly the match of the round.
The Tigers and the Marlins have big mobile forwards who will not take a backward step. The forward battle will certainly be a highlight of the match and guaranteed to keep the expected large Marlins crowd on their feet.
SWR Captain/Coach Les Lockwood wants his players to build on last week’s 90-26 demolition of a shorthanded Harrington Hurricanes.
“I want good field position and ball control throughout the 80 minutes of play,” Lockwood said. “The key to victory is for the boys to stick to the game plan and complete our set of six.”
Instrumental for a good Marlins performance are halves pairing of George Jones and Lance Robertson who face off against the classy Comboyne duo of Dean Hurrell and Justin Laurie.
They have extensive first grade and representative experience and the expected battle in the halves will be a highlight of the game With representative games coming up the selectors from the Hastings League will be present to look at the quality of players for this year’s 2016 Bush versus Beach fixture.
Both teams should feature heavily in the 2016 selections and all players will be playing to their best in what most rugby league pundits believe will be a cracker. The game kicks off at 2.30pm at the SWR Sports Ground this Saturday. Entry is by gold coin donation with full bar and canteen facilities. BYO is strictly prohibited and no glass allowed. – Geoff Ball
