Most may not realise, but one of the newest cast members on the show, James, is actually played by both Max and Archie Andrews (among a couple of others), whose family has strong ties to the Valley.
The Andrews family in the Valley dates back generations, with the men in the family well-known in rugby league, and now – starring on tv.
“It’s strange seeing them on screen, and I have trouble discerning which is which, I have to ask if it’s Max or Archie,” the twins’ grandfather Michael, known to them as pa, told the Guardian.
“It’s double trouble – as they get older they’re getting more and more like each other.”
Michael’s mum, and the boys’ great grandmother, agreed that it was hard to recognise them now, but said she was extremely proud.
“Watching the twins on tv – it’s very exciting,” Judy told the Guardian. “Everyone knows that I’m always outdoors so I tape it and try to catch up whenever I have some time … I can’t recognise them anymore though. It was filmed last year when they were just little babies, but now they are big boofy boys.”
Love Child is an Australian television drama series that follows the lives of staff and residents at the fictional Kings Cross Hospital and Stanton House in Sydney in 1969. In an era of great change, season three brings new love, lust, births, deaths and marriages. The Vietnam War is dividing the world, music and the media are shifting old ideals, and the lines between friendship, love and marriage are blurring.
Max and Archie’s mum Amy said she couldn’t believe her near two year olds were on tv.
“A friend of mine tagged me in a post on Facebook that an agency was looking for twins for a TV show and a few days after I sent a photo of the boys I received an email asking me to send more pictures and all their details like weight, clothes size, age, eye colour etc,” Amy told the Guardian.
“Then I got a phone call a few days after that, asking if I was free to bring the boys in to meet the director and have photos taken … it just went from there, a couple of weeks later they started filming.”
Without giving too much away, the storyline surrounding the boys character sees newborn James left without a mother when she died after birth. Joan – a doctor goes to find the father, Jim. After finding him, he wants custody of the baby, but it is unlikely as he is a single father. So Joan agrees to marry him.
Despite the new-found fame life is still pretty easy-going.
“It hasn't really changed life for us really,” she said. “It is exciting to know my babies are on a TV series and it’s opened my eyes to them doing future projects.
“Honestly I didn’t think anything would come of it, once I sent that first picture of the boys, I thought nothing of it. But it got very real very quick, and before I knew it we were on set of Love Child and filming. It was really exciting.”
And this wasn’t the first time Amy has been asked about the twins.
“The agency actually wanted the boys for Home and Away, but it was a bit too far away and a little too hard as my daughter started pre-school this year,” she said.
“But recently I was even stopped by a modelling agency who wanted all three of my kids to apply so who knows what will happen in the future.”
A fan of the show before, Amy said she will be glued to the series even more now.
“As a matter of fact I’ve been a huge fan of the show – I have series 1 and 2 on DVD,” she said. “But now I most certainly will be watching series 3, with, admittedly, a few proud mummy tears this time.”
Friends and family have been extremely supportive and ‘everyone has been dying for it to air’.
“My family and friends have responded in such a positive and wonderful way. Since we started filming in the middle of last year, everyone has asked me ‘When is the boys’ show coming on?’ and ‘Why is it taking so long to air?’,” Amy said.
“I'm pretty sure everyone thought I was making it all up, until they saw the boys in the advertisements about the upcoming series.”
The series was first broadcast on the Nine Network in February 2014, was renewed for a second season just one month later, and a third season renewed in February last year – the episodes of which are on air now.
