Owned by local racing identities Andrew Bennett and Matt Brennan in partnership with Queensland based Barry Gill, the horse is the first bred by Bennett and Brennan for their own racing enjoyment.
Holy Weeva was ridden a treat by talented Kempsey hoop Terry Treichel, under instruction from trainer Neil Godbolt, to come from an outside position at the turn to outsprint its rivals in the run to the finishing post.
Second home was Wine and Chocolate trained by Brett Bellamy and ridden by Raymond Spokes ahead of Flinders Beach trained by Dwayne Schmidt and ridden by Matthew Paget.
Brennan described how Holy Weeva came into being.
“Benno and Barry Gill had raced her mother in Queensland and when she sustained an injury and couldn’t race anymore she came down here to Benno’s facility at Hampden Hall.
“Holy Weeva is actually the second foal, the first unfortunately died very young.
“She is a great horse and I know my mum had a bit of a soft spot for her, she won on the last day mum was able to come to the races which was a pretty special day.”
Holy Weeva has won three times from her 12 starts and amassed a handy $52,000 in prizemoney.
“Her next run will probably be at Grafton over a similar distance, 1200m to 1400m is her distance,” Brennan said.
“If she wins a few more races we will probably try and give her a run in the Kempsey Cup in November.
To make the connections even happier Holy Weeva also collected a BOBS (Breeder Owner Bonus Scheme) bonus of $5000 for young NSW bred horses in addition to the normal prizemoney.
