The pub has the biggest turnover on the TAB in the Macleay region, with nearly one in every three bets being placed at the Great Northern Hotel.
They will be turning off their TAB on Saturday September 17 from 11am until close, to prevent the NSW government from making dividends out of their pub.
Josh Hadfield is the Licensee of the Great Northern Hotel and after hearing of the nationwide boycott he knew the pub had to take part.
“We sponsor the Kempsey Greyhound Club and it was an obvious choice and a great way to show our support,” Mr Hadfield said.
“The pub will be shouting dog trainers, track workers and other people associated with the club’s first beer.”
President of the Kempsey Greyhound Club Vicki Byrnes is very appreciative of the pubs stance.
“It is awesome. We can’t thank the Great Northern Hotel enough,” Mrs Bynres said.
“We want as much support from the local community as possible. Dog trainers are being presented as bad people but that isn’t the case at all. I treat my dogs like they are family and all of the trainers in the local area do as well.”
Mrs Byrnes encourages everyone come down and meet people involved in greyhound racing in Kempsey.
