Event coordinator Kate Mainey said the 2016 festival was shaping up to be a busy one, with a steady flow of traffic throughout the Monday ahead of the week-long event.
Kate encouraged Kempsey locals to join the tourists in checking out the festival.
“Anyone is welcome. A lot of Kempsey locals don’t know that it’s open to everyone – you don’t need to be a grey nomad," she said.
Among those visiting were Brenda and Ron Woods, who traveled north from Glenmore Park.
It was the third time they’ve made the trip to Kempsey for the festival.
“It’s starting to fill up, we’re looking forward to it,” Brenda said.
The duo had already completed a veritable Kempsey bucketlist, with visits to the Slim Dusty Centre and the akubra factory.
“We always enjoy coming here,” Brenda said.
