The day will see thousands of people flocking to the event and the secretary of Kempsey Race Club John Graham suggested a big draw for the event will be the fashion of the field awards.
Last year it was a huge hit with people showing off their outfits in the show that went for over two and a half hours with prizes given out to the winning participants.
“The fashions on the day will be boosted this year with $4,500 in prizes donated by local businesses to be given out to the winners,” Graham said.
“There are different categories and gender awards and I am expecting it to be bigger and better.”
“It will be a full schedule with eight races and the Steve Keir Memorial and the Kempsey Cup itself are shaping up to be two great races,” Graham explained.
Nominations for the race were announced on Monday morning with four horses trained by Macleay Valley locals selected and their participation will be confirmed on Wednesday.
The Cup will have a great country and Mid North Coast feel with owners from Kempsey, Port Macquarie, Wauchope and Grafton having horses in the race and Graham is expecting a very competitive field throughout the day.
Graham realises the importance of the event for the Kempsey locals.
“It is always a great and positive day for the community and they give us a lot of support. We never have any issues with the crowd.”
“It is one of the few events in Kempsey that everyone can get involved in and be a part of.”
The Kempsey Cup will be the seventh race on the day and the defending champion Single Spirit has been nominated to race and it is likely to accept the offer and it will head into the meeting on the back of two 5th place finishes.
The opening race of the day will begin at 1pm with the final jump expected to take place at 6pm due to daylight savings.
The Kempsey Cup will wrap up a huge week in horse racing in Australia with the Melbourne Cup to be ran on Tuesday.
