He said family stories, in particular, were powerful, and MPs couldn’t ignore that.
The television personality and campaigner addressed a 505-strong audience at the Glasshouse on November 22 after an invitation from Dying with Dignity NSW Port Macquarie Group.
Mr Denton is on a mission to spark a national conversation about voluntary euthanasia laws.
He said the second most effective measure people could take in the law reform push was to speak to their GP and local nurses.
Mr Denton advised people to emphasise how the core of the laws in other countries protected doctors.
“They have created laws, which in a very particular set of circumstances with very strict criteria, if the medical profession follow them, then they will not be subject to prosecution,” he said.
Mr Denton said the third most effective measure was to actively get behind groups like Go Gentle Australia and Dying with Dignity.
His research included visits to Belgium, the Netherlands and the US state of Oregon to see how voluntary euthanasia laws worked.
People travelled to the Glasshouse event from as far as Sydney, Mudgee, Bowral and Newcastle.
