The works are part of Kempsey Shire Council’s commitment to providing public spaces that help support a vibrant local business district.
Footpaths on both sides of Smith St (up to Forth St), York Lane, Clyde St Mall and Belgrave St will be cleaned as well as Elbow and Tozer Streets in West Kempsey.
Water used in the clean is recaptured into the machine and recycled through council’s water treatment plant.
Council’s Coordinator of Civic Services Steve Pellen said the works will start from Thursday December 1 and will take place after business hours in order to minimise disruption to businesses where possible. The works are expected to take approximately two weeks to complete, weather permitting.
“The clean is part of Council’s annual scheduled maintenance program and our commitment to keeping Kempsey’s streets inviting for locals and visitors to the area,” he said.
“As a council it is also our responsibility to protect the health and wellbeing of our community and to ensure our public spaces are of a high standard and this is just one of the ways we are able to do so.”
Council recently invested in a commercial high pressure scrubbing machine to allow more areas in the Shire to be cleaned on a regular basis, Mr Pellen said.
“We’ll now be able to regularly clean the footpaths in the CBDs of Kempsey, West Kempsey, South West Rocks and Crescent Head starting in the New Year and will become part of our maintenance works alongside the annual clean of the Kempsey CBD.”
