In Kempsey, the temperature peaked at 41 degrees – just two degrees below the record high for January. Rain is expected in the afternoon from 3pm onwards.
There was little relief on the coast, with South West Rocks hitting 37 degrees and Crescent Head reaching 38.
Many, like Tristan and Tahani Moran (pictured above) took to swimming spots around the region in an attempt to cool off.
There should be some welcome relief come Thursday, with temperatures expected to drop by more than ten degrees.
