The Sydney couple joined a crowd of locals and holiday makers in collecting wood from the dismantled old Killick Creek footbridge on Monday February 13.
“We are going to make a photo frame out of it for Corrine’s parents,” Mr Nelson said. “We wanted to take a piece of the bridge because we have such fond memories of Crescent Head and love coming back every year.”
Crescent Head Lions Club member Alan Loveday took some pieces of the bridge, which will be used to make a bench seat somewhere in the reserve area.
Kempsey Shire Council began dismantling the bridge on Friday February 10, inviting the public to collect pieces of timber as keepsakes.
Council will store parts of the structure for future use – such as for public art or sculptural seating.
