The two retired South Sydney Rabbitohs stars visited schools on Monday before heading to the Macleay Valley Mustangs homeground in the afternoon to take part in drills, games and pass on strong messages to the young community members.
“We talk about respect, being healthy, living a good lifestyle and making good choices with the kids,” Champion explained.
“Rugby League is a huge part of their lives and it is special for them to have two NRL players come into their community and speak with them.”
Champion grew up in Kempsey until he was six and believes returning to the country towns to spread positive information is vital.
“We hold a lot of clinics in Sydney and the surrounding areas and smaller regions such as the Macleay can easily miss out when they are just as important,” Champion said.
“Being able to meet NRL players gives them hope and it can inspire them to chase their dreams.”
Champion and Asotasi will attend 12 schools across the Macleay and will hold another clinic with the Smithtown Tigers at 4.30pm on Tuesday February 14.
