What better way to treat our Mums then to sit back and listen to live music on the Riverside Stage, walk amongst some brilliant works of art created by some of the North Coast’s most respected sculptors, and enjoy the variety of tasty foods on offer.
Some retail therapy can also be accommodated as the popular Urunga Riverside Markets will also be happening! Happy kids make for happy mums, so there will also be plenty of entertainment and activities for the kids.
This event is free entry and everyone is invited to come to Urunga and have a great day out! Held on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 14, 10am to 3pm at the Morgo Street Reserve, Urunga.
Highlights to look out for on the Riverside stage include “The Jug Addicts” from Armidale and Bellingen’s very own Jazz Maestro, “Brett Iggulden and the Night Hawks”.
ARTURUNGA
Sculpture in the Park was postponed from a rainy, January date and should prove a real treat on Mother’s Day. Many of the artists that produced last year’s prize winning works of art will be back with their creations, along with some new and exciting sculptors.
The previous event’s all round champion, Nick Warfield, will be back from exhibiting his unique bird sculptures at the Maleny Folk Festival.
In the youth section, Sponsored by Solar Depot Bellingen, Urunga Primary School, Raleigh Primary School and Sawtell Primary School students along with some budding young individual sculptors have produced works with distinctive environmental messages.
There will be over 50 sculptures, displayed for all to enjoy.
$2100 of prizes will be given to the winners of the different categories, including the grand prize, sponsored by the Combined Urunga Businesses; runner-up, sponsored by the UMCC. The small sculpture category sponsored by Bellingen Shire Council, the youth category, sponsored by Solar Depot Bellingen and the popular People’s Choice for best sculpture, sponsored by Affirmations Publishing House.
The difficult task of judging winners will be taken on by Shan Blake who has a long career in many aspects of Visual Arts on the Mid North Coast, Kempsey area and local artist and ceramicist, May Southgate.
This year, Voting for the People’s Choice will extend its voting time for the entire day, with the winner announced in the following Bellingen Shire Courier Sun newspaper.
