“Our volunteers are at the heart of our museum, bringing life and energy into each and every day,” centre manager Michele Atkinson said.
Joy McKean was on hand to help celebrate and congratulate the volunteers with a ‘thank you’ brunch.
“The highlight of Volunteers Week is to be able to see large groups of our volunteers, all at the same place at the same time,” Ms McKean said.
“Our volunteers all over Australia are the backbone of so many community and welfare projects and I would like to thank them for their dedication.”
The volunteers were also eager to express why they enjoy volunteering at the Slim Dusty Centre, a place that is not only enjoyable to be at, but also a place to meet new people and make wonderful friends.
“As soon as I put on my badge I feel like I’m Slim’s mate!” long-time volunteer Meryl Howarth said.
Another volunteer, Sandra Bull, has just returned to help out and said “it feels like coming home and being with friends”.
The centre’s volunteers all share the feeling of being in one big family along with the staff, with everyone supporting one another.
Meeting like-minded people, providing a new direction in life, especially after retirement, and a place where you can forget life’s problems are all reasons that volunteers work at the Slim Dusty Centre.
If you would like to join the friendly team, you will be more than welcomed at the Slim Dusty Centre. Either drop into the Slim Dusty Centre at South Kempsey or call 6562-6533.
