The band recently wrapped up shows with some of Australia’s finest in ELKI, Bec Sandridge and Nussy and are excited to be returning to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Bowraville.
Animal Kingdom is a unique album that shows a band that has deepened their craft and are unafraid to explore. It is an exploration into human behaviour. Finding humour in the bizarre complexes and irrational behaviours, the stray thoughts, emotions, impulses and delusions all of which come together in song conjuring dreamlike scenes of fantasy.
Animal Kingdom has an eccentric edge, and while the tempos are upbeat, the overall mood is somewhat dark. Buoyant tempos meet brooding synths, overdrive riffs sit beneath a psychedelic atmosphere and ironic humour is countered by more sincere moments.
Having recorded the album over a month from a shed with an incredible view of the mountains and trees, Pirra returned to Sydney and worked with producers Lachlan Mitchell (The Jezabels, The Whitlams) on Wake Me and Neal Sutherland (Bertie Blackman, The Presets) on Hunter to complete the album.

Ove the years the band have played at the likes of Sydney Festival, AWME, Woodford Folk Festival, Festival of Pacific Arts (Solomon Islands) and Homeground Festival (Sydney Opera House) and are excited to hit the road again.
Pirra is fronted by vocalist Jess Beck who in the past has received nominations for both ‘Most Promising New Talent’ and ‘Female Artist Of The Year’ at the national Deadly Awards.
