Both teams were up against some tough competition in their divisions and did themselves, their coaches and the association proud never giving up the entire weekend no matter how hard the games were.
Both teams played around 18 games of netball each over the three days of the competition facing some very strong competitors. It’s a gruelling three days for the players with a lot of netball being played which can take its toll physically and emotionally. The Macleay teams were lucky that they had no major injuries and all players held their own throughout the weekend.
One of the highlights for the opens team was defeating the Nambucca Valley Opens in a re-match of the regional league division 2 final played in May. The Macleay Opens played a brilliant game and dominated their opponents to take the win this time round.
The under 17’s were a new look team this year from last year’s team who came runners up. There were put up a division this year because of their top placing the previous year which meant the opposition teams were going to be that next level higher. Full credit to the girls though for taking it in their stride and playing some outstanding netball and never giving up.
The association would like to thank the umpires, Amanda Wicks and Sarah Lawrence, all the players, coaches, managers, primary carers, parents and supporters who represented and helped out Macleay Netball.
Saturday netball resumes this week after having a week off for the long weekend. The draw has been sent out to all clubs and has been posted on the association’s face book page also. Please make sure you check what time you are playing and if you are down to do any umpiring duties.
