In the Minnows, four-year-old Ashton beat big bother, Jairah, with his 294gm bream and also took out the Mystery Fish – $20 going Ashton’s way.
In the ladies’ section, Cassie Clark came in first with a bream of 340gm, narrowly taking it out from Elaine Sheppard. Elaine, however, bounced back with a great tailor weighing in at 1.6kg. Both ladies also weighed in other fish for points.
Buck took out the men’s with his 426gm bream, while Dave Sheppard took home first for his 1.98kg tailor.!
With only the one comp remaining for the year, the points are close – all scores on the board at the tavern.
The next comp is June 30-July 2. Target species are bream and snapper. The Mystery Fish starts back at $20 and the members’ draw jackpots to $120 thanks to Luke Clowe not being present on the day.
The AGM and presentation will also be held on Sunday directly after weigh-in – time being 12-12.30pm and barbecue and drinks to follow.
Inquiries, call Dan Clowe on 0400 425-974 or Wendy Streatfield on 0448 459-373.
Meanwhile, Riley Wilson reports that after a week of big swell everything should be well and truly stirred into action. Based on reports I have been hearing blackfish are biting well on the run-in tide with some anglers doing well. Others are having a bit of a hard time but I think that comes down to knowledge and technique, as some blackfish anglers are just magicians.
Big tailor and salmon have been caught after the rough weather and I hope they hang around because they are just so much fun and really are pretty good to eat if you treat them right, bleed them and keep them on ice.
While the flathead are upstream on the gravel flats there are bream in the deeper holes and I dare say a few bass will be amongst them but as always at this time of year they must be released.
