GOOD conditions prevailed on Saturday at The Island Golf Course, though there was little to no run on a dry track through all the fairways.

With 104 turning out for the 4BBB event all seemed pretty pleased to once again be out on the course.
Well in front of the field Robert Reid and Phil Shields put together a round of 50 points.
They streeted the nearest contenders of Walter Bortoletto and Paul Ryan who amassed 45 points to be the runners-up.
In the second runners-up spot were Peter Ryan and Peter Delaney on 44 points along with Steve Doherty and Keith Elphick (the two Peters having the better back nine with 24 points) while Keith and Steve managed 22.
Kel McGoldrick and John Hopkins had a round of 43 as did Derek Wynn and Ron Lapin after ‘deadly Derek’ had a field day with his putter to keep the pair in the game.
Balls in the rundown went to 41 with four pairs to collect and they are Trevor Hopkins and David Bird, Gary Tierney and Peter Morriss, John Kelly and Bryan Ussher, and Kevin Mulhall and Garry Roach.
Pins for the day went to Eddy Penrose at the 3rd and the 15th, Peter Farrell and Peter Delaney, Dennis Myers (Tocumwal), Kel McGoldrick the pizza hole and Greg McCoy went home better off after taking the money shot at the 18th.
On Sunday, the Mixed Foursomes championships over 27 holes was played in the sponsored event courtesy of Deidre Byrne.
Coming out on top after a rusty start were Glenys Thompson and Drew Glasson who put together a score of 134 to take the championship. Not to far in arear were Linnie and Joe Street with 138 for the 27 holes, while – visiting from (Charlestown) – Rachel and Jay Bolton on 145 came in next.
In the chase for the nett after the players took half their handicaps for the first 18 holes then a quarter of their handicap for the nine remaining holes, Linnie and Joe Street came out on top with a score of 114.75 followed by the Boltons, 115, then Shane Anderson and Robyn Jones 116.75, with Garnet and Christine O'Brien 117.75, Col and Donna Easey 118.25, and Sally Welsh and John Slade 119.75.
All enjoyed the entertainment in the club after as well as the snacks provided.
On Thursday the golf gods turned on a great day for the 91 starters in the stableford event, the field being divided into two divisions.
In division one Richard Dube and Bernard Dugdale both playing off 16 handicap posted a score of 38 points each. Richard having the better back nine holes picked up the winner’s voucher while Bernie had to settle for runner-up.
Division 2 was taken out by Russell Barnett who played off 36 (but no more) had a round of 40 points. Tom Watson (Nelson Bay) 27 handicap had 39 to get the second voucher. Balls for the round went down to 31 with just the two to collect and they are Chris Thorndike and Tim Standing.
Pins went to Col Wormleaton, (Sladies Hole) John Hopkins, Greg McCoy, Kevin Mulhall,at, 5, 7 and 8, Peter Farrell took out the pizza with Tim Standing taking Stu's ball, while Slade McInerney took the money shot back to Coffs.
All players are finding it a little puzzling with the new flags and bigger holes around the course as we set up for FOOT GOLF to be introduced on July 9.
There will be plenty of free games available on this opening day, so I suggest you make inquiries at the golf club or pro shop to get your brochure and a free game to kick it all off.
Another suggestion is for those who do not wish to play serious competition golf – there is always a nine-hole comp every Monday and Friday (just ask at the pro shop and they will provide all of the details).
Saturday will be the monthly medal round sponsored by Local Liquor and Sunday will be Island Sunday.
Congratulations are in order to the two teams to play off for the Men’s Fourball Best Ball championship – where Trevor Peter and Snowy Freeman will take on last year’s winners Dave Wilson and John Nebauer.
