As a father of four, President of the Macleay Valley Rangers Football Club and business owner, Ashley is no stranger to being busy and has fitted the additional Council work into his schedule.
Ashley was first elected to Council in September 2012 and re-elected in last year’s local government elections.
In October 2016 his fellow Councillors elected him as Deputy Mayor for a minimum one year term.
“I’ve attended functions and met with ratepayers on the Mayor’s behalf before,” Cr Williams said.
“With the Mayor away on a planned family holiday until the first week of August, this is a great opportunity for me to really add more to my local government experience.
“This week I’ve chaired my first Councillor workshop and then chaired Tuesday’s Council meeting.
“There is a lot of legislation and procedure that goes with a formal Council meeting and I’d like to thank my fellow Councillors, many of whom are very experienced, for their support and guidance.
“It’s certainly a busy time, but an exciting one for the Macleay.
“Our future is bright and as a 30-year-old local father, I’m honoured to be giving 100 per cent to our Shire and its ratepayers.”
