Coming out on top in A grade was Glen Crow (11 handicap) with a round of 38 points. Following Glen in the grade was Eddy Penrose (8) put together a round of 37 (nice to see Ed finish his round and put in a card).
Best score of the day in B grade was Rob Coneybeare (15) a round of 39 points. Visiting from Sawtell, Simon Easey (18) took out the runner-up for the grade with 38 points.
For C grade John Slade (21) again topped the list with 36 points, hopefully the handicapper will get John to B grade this week. Picking up the runner-up voucher was Garry Beggs (19) also a score of 36 points.
Ball rundown for the round went to 32, with Alan Cockburn, Dennis Lear (Toukley) Michael Bennett and Peter Miller all to collect. Pins for the round went to Phil Mander at Sladies hole on 3, Garry Beggs on 5, Steve Frost at 7, Garnie O’Brien at 8, Kel McGoldrick at 13, Simon Easey took out 15th while Peter Farrell once again took out the money shot.
Play of the day must go to Peter Bush at the par 5, 11th hole with a fine shot in that curled around the big tree to plug on the side of the dam. With a drop for a plugged ball, Pete put his ball onto the green. All on the green heard a splash and as usual thought somebody behind had landed in the dam, but on inspection it was Pete’s golf buggy, bag, wallet, mobile phone and all the gear that one carries around a golf course. Off with the shoes and socks into the dam to retrieve all, or as much as could be found. Not to be deterred, Pete had a six on the hole and carried on with the game.
Thursday’s stableford medley round was well down on players as a group took the chance to play at South West Rocks. Those who stayed saw Paul McEllinney take out division one on a countback with Dave Mattacott, both with rounds of 38 points.
In division two another countback was needed for Roger Bale (21) to get the win over Roy Louis (27), both 36 points.
Balls in the rundown went to 31 with just the two old stagers in Kerry McCoy and Lee Fewings to collect.
Nearest the pins for the round went to Dave Mattacott at 3, Col Wormleaton at 5, Neil Duffus at 8, Ted Beaton took the pizza this pizza that at 13t, Tim Standing collected at 15 and at the last Kerry McCoy picked up the money shot.
Just a reminder to all re the Week of Golf in August – you need to get your entry in as places will fill sooner than later.
