Learner drivers need 120 driving hours before they can go for their licence, which we all know means that parents of Learners are also required to find 120 hours during this time to supervise.
There is also evidence there is benefit in having more than just the supervision of one person from their family, and an increase in professional driving instructor exposure can make our roads safer for our youth.
The Two Way Street project is a community initiative for the improved and increased exposure of youth to learning how to drive.
The hugely successful program has been running since 2014 and has already seen more than 23 learners earn their licence.
Unfortunately the most dangerous time in a young person's life is their first year of solo driving. Locally, our drivers are four times more likely to be involved in a fatal accident, and for our part in the program, the Hub wants to help change these grim statistics.
This is where the Two Way Street program comes in, which connects learners to driving supervisors, offering a diversity of times and days of the week for supervised drives, as well as having both manual and automatic cars available.
There is no cost in signing up to the program, we just ask that in return Learners ‘pay it forward’ by committing to support other community initiatives that we partner with.
If you have your learners licence, can fill in some paperwork and are happy to do some work around the community as a repayment, then you can book in.
Learner drivers please call: 6655 0381 or email info@belloyouthhub.net to make a booking for a routine that suits you.
The project is also always looking for more supervisor volunteers, please contact the same if interested.
