The Bellinger Heads State Park Trust, in consultation with Bellingen Shire Council and the Department of Industry – Lands, is currently developing a Masterplan to guide the future management of Atherton Drive Foreshores at Urunga. The main purpose of the Masterplan is to enhance public recreation opportunities, improve public access and manage threatened species found in the area.
Given the historical and environmental significance of this area, I strongly encourage interested members of the community to visit Council’s Community Engagement website; www.create.bellingen.nsw.gov.au. Here, you can familiarise yourself with the project and submit your thoughts and ideas about how the foreshores should be managed.
Due to the high level of public interest in this precinct, the community consultation period has been extended until 31st August and another public drop in session will be held at Urunga Literary Hall on Tuesday August 29th 2017 from 3-7pm.
RECENT BRIDGE AND ROAD WORKS
Council’s operation staff have been extremely busy over the last few months with numerous works taking place.
NSW Roads and Maritime Services engaged Bellingen Shire Council to upgrade part of Waterfall Way’s road surface and width. The location of the improvements is 600m east of Tyson Street at Fernmount and is known as Eichmann's Flat. Works have now been completed with sealing and placement of guide posts occurring last week. It is anticipated that line marking of this section of road will commence in approximately one month’s time.
Heavy patching has been completed on Hungry Head Road at Urunga as well as Hydes Creek Road and Roses Road in Bellingen. Grading has also been carried out on Shephards Road and Whisky Creek Road in Dorrigo.
Cooks Bridge on Kalang Road is nearing completion and work on McFadyens Bridge, Richardsons Bridge and Leans Creek Bridge has also begun. In addition, a number of landslips have been repaired on Darkwood, Kalang, Gordonville and Promised Land Loop Roads.
The Bellingen Town Centre Beautification Project is also progressing well with works on the corner of Hyde and Oak Streets almost complete. I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere thanks to the community for their continued patience during this period.
COUNCILLOR DROP IN SESSIONS
Cr Fenton, Cr Harrison, Cr Carter and I attended Urunga Riverside Markets on Saturday August 12 to engage with our Urunga community. Our informal drop-in session provided an excellent opportunity to witness yet another wonderful community driven initiative in action.
The session was very informative allowing us the chance to listen and speak to many locals on a whole range of issues. We will be holding more of these sessions in the future which I hope to advertise through a variety of channels including on my Facebook page.
