These beautiful community facilities provide a place to meet friends and cool down on a hot summer’s day.
Many sport and recreational activities are planned for this season including swim clubs, squad training, swimming lessons and aqua aerobics.
Swimming is a low impact cardiovascular activity that is excellent for building endurance, muscle strength and overall fitness. It also reduces stress, improves posture, increases flexibility and is a peaceful, therapeutic form of exercise.
Surrounded by pools, rivers and the sea, swimming is one of Bellingen Shire’s most popular recreational activities.
It’s therefore important both children and adults learn to swim well and feel safe and comfortable in the water. To facilitate this, both swim centres offer lessons in a secure and friendly environment enabling students to become skilled and competent swimmers.
Aqua aerobics provides a refreshing alternative form of exercise in the height of summer and is suitable for any age or skill level. It has significant health benefits such as relieving joint strain and reducing blood pressure with the added bonus of burning calories.
Bellingen and Dorrigo Swim Clubs provide a fun night activity for families with young children. The clubs are non-competitive, enabling young people to participate in a variety of swimming events in which they aim to beat their personal best. Both clubs serve up an affordable barbecue dinner which is a great relaxing way to kick start a summer weekend.
Bellingen Swimming Club has their club night on Fridays and Dorrigo Swim Club is held on Wednesday evenings. Dorrigo will be having 2 Come and Try nights on the Wednesday afternoons (Sept 27 and Oct 4) in the school holidays from 4.30 – 5.30pm and Swim Club nights will commence on Wednesday October 11.
Bellingen Diggers Swim Club is another local swim club for adults aged 18 plus.
