Team Leader of Library Services, Angie Meers, said the reason for the closure is due to a decline in the number of toy library items being borrowed.
Ms Meers said staff have made a thorough assessment of the stock in the toy library and will be keeping high end educational and special needs resources for borrowing.
“A significant quantity of stock will be utilised for children’s programs within the Mid North Coast Co-operative Library service,” she said.
“Following the success of Telstra’s “Maker Party in a Box” workshops at Kempsey Library, our team will be developing the space where the toy library was to deliver more workshops and programs for children with an emphasis on literacy, science and technology.
“The remainder of the stock that cannot be utilised by the library will be sold within the guidelines of Council’s Procurement Policy 5.9.6 Disposal of Assets.
“Toys that are currently on loan can still be returned after Friday, October 26, however, items not returned will still be subject to the standard library charges for overdue and/or damaged items.
“On behalf of the library I wish to thank everyone for their support of the Kempsey Toy Library over the many years of operation. We hope that patrons join us at the library when we deliver engaging and interactive programs for the children in our community.”
