Winner in A grade was Garnie O’Brien with a round of 40 points playing off a handicap of 9. Runner-up was Ian Vidler (12 handicap) with a round of 38, after some time away from the club carrying out his duties with the NSW Veterans Golf Association.

Other good rounds in A grade came from Bruce Berry (6) 38 points, and Drew Glasson (10) 36 points.

In B grade, Eric Hudson (18) visiting from Leeton had 38 points with Peter Fredrickson (17) 38 points also, but missing out in the countback. Others to show out in B grade were Uri Ylinen (18) 35 and Paul Fitzgerald (13) Coffs 34 points, best of the 34 in this grade.

There were plenty of contenders in C grade with 40 starters. Don Adams (21) had the glory on his own with 41 points. Next in the grade was Russell White (28), collecting the runners-up voucher with 38 points. Good rounds for the grade came from Les Mohr (21) 37, and Dale Hanson (25) 36, along with Trevor Peck (20), Richard Trevena (20) 35 and Garry Roach (23) 35.

None of the  scores from above worried the Sports and Leagues Club zponsored Top Gun Shoot Out leaders as it draws to a close with only a few rounds to contest.

Play of the day went to Trevor Hopkins with a hole-in-one on the 5th hole, newly sponsored by Nambucca Newsagencies with a $5 jackpot lottery ticket, a dozen balls and his name on the honour board – well done, Trev.

Nearest the pins went to Bruce Berry at 3, Geoff Rackham at 7, Drew Glasson at 8, John Kelly took out the pizza hole at 13, Nathan Smith the 13th and Garnie O’Brien made his day a whole lot better with the money shot in hand.

Ball rundown went to 33 with five players to collect and they are Ted Beaton, Rod Robertson, Alan Cockburn, Michael Summerill, and Mathew McKee of Grafton picking up the last.

Thursday’s round with 99 starters in the single stableford medley found the greens a little furry after just the one cut since the renovation.

Handling the conditions well was Tim Standing (5) with 37 points to take out A grade from Denys Tobin (12) in a countback with Graham Weary (11) next on 35 points. Others to do well were Greg McCoy (4), Ian Vidler (12) and Paul Ryan (8), all with 33 points. Finding some form and pleasing his playing partner no end was Paddy Byrne (15), with a rare round of 42 points to take out B grade. In the runner-up spot was Ken Marriott (13) with 37 points.

Next best were Bruce Walker (13) from Mudgee 36 points, and Dirk Prummell (14) 35 along, with Uri Ylinen (18), Henny Oldenhove (18) 34, as did Peter Doherty from Mudgee, Jason Belt, Geoff Harris and Geoff McCann all on a 15 handicap. 38 players contested B grade.

Having his best round since joing the club, Steve Doherty (22) put together 44 points to take C grade from the 41 who contested. The runner-up voucher went to (Lethal) Lee Fewings (26) a 37-point round (sorry to say Walter Bortoletto (22) missed on the countback with his 37-point round).

Next in was John Patterson (34) with 36, along with Mark Cooney and Geoff Rackham (22). Hot on their heels were Wayne Purcell (20), Alvin Rapley (26) and Mark Nugent (20) all with 34 points.

Nearest the pins went to Glen Crow at Sladies Hole 3, Col Wormleaton the 5^th, Dave Mattacott at 7, Mick Harmer at 8, Uri Ylinen took the pizza at 13, Kel McGoldrick the 13th, and Graham Weary took out the money shot at 18.

Ball rundown went to 32 with Chris Thorndike, Mathew Gilbert and Greg Smith the only ones to collect.

Water Levy – given the unusually dry conditions, the $1 levy has been reinstated to offset the club’s high water expenses.

Thursday September 28 – Dolphin Day Medley Single Stableford, an open event, so visitors play at members’ rates.

Saturday September 30 – Medley Single Stableford.

Sunday October 1 – Island Sunday mixed 4BBB Stableford. Visitors welcome, $20.

Monday October 2 – Monday Madness, nine-hole Single Stableford competition from 9am.

Wednesday – Ladies competition, Single Stableford.

Social play – every day subject to competitions.

Footgolf – a combination of soccer and golf. Great fun for all the family. Come and play for $30 per family, unlimited rounds, with free soft drink for the kids.

Kids Disco – Tuesday, October 2, from 5.30pm.

Frank Munro's Shifting Sands donated trophies for a twoball aggregate stableford event that was also the annual Captain’s versus President’s event. The two teams couldn't be separated and the contest finished in a draw.

The twoball event was taken out by Desma Hughes and Brian King who had a fine round of 77 points from Ray Bowering and Murray Dryburghon with 74 points in a three-way count back.

Front nine winners were Jeff Gore and Geoff O'Grady with Steve Ash and Brian King winning the back nine.

Long drives went to: A Grade Allan Clarke, B Grade Curtis Ellis and Max Turner won the C Grade.

Nearest the pins on the 4th/13th went to A Grade Allan Clarke, B Grade Jim Wilkes and Steve Hosking took out the C Grade.

Other nearest the pins: A Grade 9th/18th Allan Clarke, B Grade 5th/14th Tony Adams and C Grade on the 8th/17th to Graham Vincent.

The individual event in conjunction was won by Curtis Ellis.

Thursday's stableford event was taken out by Geoff O'Grady with Jeff Gore taking the nearest the pin.

This Saturday's event will be a single stableford sponsored by Steve Woods Break and Exhaust.
