But one multi-award winning artist from Bowraville has been turning heads with her use of dazzling colours and unrestrained expression.
Recently, Myffie Coady took out first prize in the ‘non-traditional’ painting section of the Nambucca Valley Art Exhibition for her vibrant artwork ‘Fire on The Bluff’.
This win caps off a successful year with Myffie gaining two other art prizes in our region: first prize in the drawing section of the Bellingen Show for ‘Sealed with a Kiss’ and highly commended for her portrait ‘Serenity’ at the Macksville Show’s Art Exhibition.
She is passionate about the beauty of nature and animals feature in many of her paintings.
My art also reflects my zest for life—I tend to use a lot of movement in my art.
- Myffie Coady
“The most beautiful things in life are simple and emotional, and you will find a lot of emotion in my paintings as that is what drives me to draw and paint.”
Gallery Curator at The Glasshouse Regional Gallery Port Macquarie Niomi Sands is a particular fan of Myffie’s style as illustrated in her award-winning painting ‘Fire on the Bluff’.
“This emotive work captures the drama and tension of its subject through dynamic composition, abstracted tone, colour and form,” Ms Sands said.
“The artist has captured the unpredictable nature of fire in this vibrant work.”
Over the last three years she has been awarded eight prizes and will soon introduce the Mid North Coast to more of her paintings in her latest solo art exhibition ‘Drawn to Paint’.
This exhibition will feature a series of contemporary acrylic paintings and charcoal drawings, including some landscapes influenced by her recent overseas travels.
The exhibition will be open daily from November 28 to December 11 at the Macleay Valley Community Art Gallery, 5 Kinchela St, Gladstone.
Gladstone is becoming well-known as an artistic village with a beautiful location on the Macleay River.
Visitors to the gallery can also enjoy a riverside stroll and take in the heritage buildings, history and make some funky finds.
