The 14-year-old finished as the runner-up in the under 16 age group after he finished with two seconds and a first at the three NSW road racing rounds.
The winner of each event is decided upon by calculating the finishes of the competitors across four races at the event.
Zylas now turns his focus to the national titles as he currently sits in first position in the Australian championships after securing a win and a second place finish in the opening two events.
However, an accident which lead to Zylas suffering a dislocated shoulder two weeks ago could prove costly.
“He has a pretty good chance of securing the Australian title but the injury may hurt his chances,” Zylas’ father Mark Bunting said.
“It doesn’t seem to be troubling him too much, it’s a bit sore but we will just have to wait and see how he goes.”
Zylas will be pushing to overcome the injury in time to be ready for the next competition which is held at Broadford in Victoria this weekend before the final event is at Mallala in Adelaide.
Regardless of Zylas’ results in the Australian championship, he will move into a higher division and age group next year.
Zylas’ second place finish in the state competition made him eligible to compete in the senior competition for 2018.
While he knows it’s a massive step up, Mark claims his son is ready for the stiff competition.
“It’s another challenge for Zylas and only a handful of juniors decide to face off with the seniors but I know Zylas is up to it,” Mark said.
“Not many juniors choose to go up against the seniors but Zylas has the aspirations to do it so I am not going to get in his way.”
Zylas will compete in the Australia Supersport 300cc championship next year.
Mark credits Zylas’ major sponsor Shark Motorcycle Leather for allowing his son to pursue his motocross racing dream.
