The club is one championship point behind leaders Woolgoolga while Tugun, a club from Queensland, are in third place.
Kempsey-Crescent Head Surf Boat captain Scott Edwards claimed it was a positive first outing for the season despite crew member absences.
“Our crews ended up in third and fourth position, so it wasn’t the best day out results wise,” Edwards said.
“But we had a lot of rowers missing so it made for a great club day as we helped each other out and built upon our club spirit.”
Edwards said the highlight of the day was the progression of the junior crew, who finished in first place in one of their races.
Meanwhile the South West Rocks Surf Life Saving Club’s only crew, the Masters 160s, earned the perfect start to their title aspirations.
The crew secured first position overall and earned the maximum amount of points in the opening round.
The Masters were dealt a tough lane for their opening two races and settled for second position in both, however, they made the most of their opportunity when they had a clearer run.
“We had harsh allies to start off with, waves were whacking us on the way out,” South West Rocks Surf Boat captain Paul Owns said.
“But it’s a fair competition and we were able to win all three races when we were given the more favourable end.”
Despite the positive start, Owens claims there is a lot to improve on.
“We need to keep working, there’s a few things we could have done better but it was a great first hit out,” Owens said.
“We are in great shape moving forward.”
The two surf boat clubs will be in action at round two of the North Coast Surf Boat Series at Scotts Head.
The next event is a two-day competition on Saturday November 18 and Sunday November 19.
