Nulla won the toss and sent Stuarts Point Eungai to the crease. After getting away to a reasonable start with opener B Groundwater scoring a well-made 56 before being run out, Stuarts Point Eungai managed to compile 164 runs in their dig. N Morrison 4/31 and A Stutz 2/35 were Nulla’s best with the ball.
In response, Nulla amassed 7/191 from the 33 overs remaining in the day’s play to sit in a commanding position heading into the second innings. B Paix made 43, T Ward scored 40, M Haydon contributed 35 and A Stutz chipped in 26. Z Maitland was the pick of Stuarts Point Eungai’s bowlers with 3/54.
A damp wicket resulting from the previous night’s storm and showers earlier in the day halted play for 90 minutes in the other round seven first grade match played on Saturday at South West Rocks.
When play finally got underway, it was talented youngster L Dowling who led the way for Rovers. After making 56 last week, Dowling again showed his teammates how it is done, top scoring with 43.
Rovers finished 8/144 from their 50 overs. J Stocks took 3/45 and DE Tinlin 3/55.
