The group participates is a variety of activities, including painting, crafts and special projects they have been asked to contribute to.
They also create craftwork and paintings for sale to fund the purchase of more materials and equipment, as well as future activities.
Aunties involved in the group sew special items for the Kempsey District Hospital.
Members also hold regular bingo days and women’s craft days.
The group also attends outings with Bowraville Elders Group such as fishing expeditions, barbecues and social walks along the beach.
The elders now have a regular men’s group outings as well.
Both the men’s and women’s groups often go to special places of interest and cultural significance, and tourist destinations for lunch.
The Aunties recently donated small dolls which have been dressed and wrapped nicely, to give to children who are finding the experience of going to Kempsey District Hospital difficult.
These dolls were originally donated to the Elders Group.
“It’s a great feeling to help our kids in Hospital,” Boorongen Djugun coordinator Gail Missen.
The Elders Group welcome new members from the community.
If you are interested in joining, the coordinators at Booroongen Djugun Limited are happy to discuss the group or advise people on how they can access help.
