George has four great passions in life, which have influenced and shaped his life and career – gardening, theatre and music, collecting old things and travel.
He is a keen gardener with a passion for all things garden related, devoting a great deal of time and energy to his 6 acre garden, Winchelsea, in the Manning Valley, which he regularly opens for charity, raising over $40,000 to date.

He has been president of the Killabakh Garden Club since 2004 and is the current president of The Garden Clubs of Australia, an umbrella organisation with 700 affiliate garden clubs and related organisations, totaling about 50,000 members.
He writes a monthly gardening column for the Wingham Chronicle, judges the potted plant section at the Taree and Wingham shows, is a member of numerous gardening organisations and contributes a recurrent gardening segment on the local ABC radio.
