The Local Area Command’s Inspector Guy Flaherty said New Year’s Eve was “very quiet and very good with no major gatherings in public spaces”.
“Local police stopped over 120 vehicles during the day and the evening with only one driver charged with a low-range drink-drive offence,” Insp. Flaherty said.
“This strong police presence ensured it was a safe night for everyone.
“During December in excess of 2500 cars were stopped as part of Operation Safe Arrival with relatively few people charged. The operation will continue into the new year with speed, fatigue and alcohol-related road crime a particular focus.”
Insp. Flaherty said with the highway bypass open at Macksville local police were now able to turn their attention to local roads, such as Giinagay Way.
“Bicycle police will also continue to be deployed in public places, especially in and around caravan parks.”
