People are encouraged to line the streets and support our batonbearers with the relay starting its visit at St Paul's College at 11:45am before making its way through Kempsey to finish at Riverside Park at 1pm.

The community is welcome to bring their lunch to Riverside Park to share the spirit of the relay and the games.

As part of this event, there will be rolling road closures between 11am and 1pm with the following roads being closed and/or having limited access for periods of time: • West Kempsey: Sea, Marsh, Tozer and Elbow Streets as well as restricted access to the Kempsey Railway Station • Kempsey: Belgrave, Clyde, Forth, Smith, John and Verge Streets • The Kempsey Traffic Bridge will also be briefly closed Council is working with specialist traffic management staff and local emergency services to ensure the road closures are smoothly implemented.

Significant delays can be expected, the community is encouraged to plan their travel.

Mayor, Liz Campbell, said she is delighted that Kempsey will be hosting the GC2018 Queen’s Baton Relay. “Being selected as a host town is an exciting opportunity for Kempsey,” Cr Campbell said. “This is a great way to highlight and promote Kempsey to people in Australia and the world who have been following the Queen’s Baton extraordinary journey.” 

The Queen’s Baton will arrive on the Gold Coast for the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony on 4 April 2018, where Her Majesty’s message from the Baton will be read aloud to declare the Games officially open.
