The Mustangs play at Verge St Oval on seven occasions this season and president Tim Moorehead is aiming to create a positive influence on each gameday.
“This season the Mustangs plan to leverage the popularity of rugby league in our area to address the many levels of social inequality and disadvantage that continue to exist within our community,” Mustangs president Tim Moorehead said.
The Mustangs will spread a variety of messages at their home games throughout the season with Moorehead in the advanced stages of finalising the arrangements.
“We are currently negotiating with local community organisations to deliver messages at our home games relating to domestic violence, anti-smoking campaigns and physical and emotional health,” Moorehead said.
“We are in the advanced planning stage for separate domestic violence awareness campaigns and also including NAIDOC themed home games with other possible partnerships also in the negotiation stage.
“We propose home games to be a family friendly environment and cultural hub whereby a program operates for youth to explore Aboriginal art, language, dance, culture, traditions, as well as encouraging important health messages including healthy eating, and physical activity.
“It’s the perfect ground for teaching our youth about Aboriginal culture as well as creating a positive relationship with sport, activity and each other.”
The Mustangs host the Taree City Bulls on Saturday April 14 in round one of the Group Three competition.
Macleay Valley, who reached last year’s grand final, eliminated the Bulls in the preliminary final in an entertaining encounter.
