She has been selected to represent Australia in the Futsal (indoor soccer) World Cup to be held in Spain at the end of May. She will be playing for the Australian under 20s women team as one of the two goalkeepers.
Some of you might know that Bellingen High School has always had very strong representation in this sport.
Every year at least a couple of the school teams have reached finals at national level.
This is all thanks to the tireless dedication of the school’s staff and community.
This has allowed Gaia to play futsal competitively throughout her high school years.
She is the first to represent Australia at international level in this sport, a great achievement for her and for the sports department of Bellingen High School.
Gaia was born in Thora and spent her primary school years at Orama public school.
To ensure she has adequate funding for her trip a fundraiser is going to be held at the Thora hall on Saturday April 7.
The theme of the night is Saturday Night Fever disco.
Food, drinks and cakes will be available. There will also be a raffle with great prizes. For more information keep an eye on Facebook events page and fliers which are going to be posted around town.
If you are unable to come on the night but would still like to contribute, there is a gofund me site that has been set up.
So, don your seventies and eighties sparkly flares and your dancing shoes and join us on the dance floor for a great night of disco dancing and other fun and games.
