Kempsey Shire Council is currently repairing a sinkhole which formed in Kinchela St, Gladstone last Friday afternoon.
The sinkhole, approximately 1.2 metres wide, formed due to underground drainage problems compromising the structural integrity of the ground, causing the surface to cave-in.
Council’s Acting Manager of Engineering Works, Tony Green, said the area has been sectioned off and is currently undergoing repairs.
“The underground drainage is being addressed first and then we will fill in the hole and fix the road as soon as possible,” he said.
“We thank nearby businesses and residents for their cooperation during this time and ask that people stay away from the area until it is reopened.”
It is located out the front of The Hertiage Hotel of Gladstone.
