Not long after becoming the B-grade champion, our club captain, Robert Dykes, continued his run of runs by taking out the April Medal Stroke event staged by the Kempsey Veterans Golf Club on Tuesday last.

An A-grader week by week, Dykes finished his 14-hole round with a 5-under 51 nett following a more-than-satisfactory 68 off the stick.
He was a clear-cut winner - by two strokes - over closest rivals, club champion Ian Rudd and John Terlich.
It was a rather different happenstance in B-grade, Greg Mayhew being adorned with the much-sought-after token after surviving a countback with long-time mate Neil "Pappy" Dodds.
Both had signed off for 54 nett, the 2-under score three to the good of a quartet of challengers, namely Bruce Morris, Barry Pearson, John Inder and Lake Cathie visitor Terry Dwyer.
Ironically, Dodds is a director of the Kempsey Heights Bowling Club which continues with its sponsorship of the Monthly Medal competition.
Both Dykes and Mayhew now join the half-dozen who have already qualified for the big Gold Medal Day scheduled early December.
Outside of the two already mentioned, Terry Smith (54), Alan Macdonald (55), Wayne Simmons and Peter Hatton (56) were also A-grade ball winners.
The putting rider event went to Smith (20) and Morris (19).
Nearest the pin at the third hole were Macdonald and Ron Ingall, whilst Graheme Martin was closest at the eighth hole.
Last week's field of 38-strong and some half-dozen below the usual numbers was used as a guide to bring three grades into vogue for future competitions.
The idea had been mooted at the Club's Board Meeting held prior to last Tuesday's round and will begin the first Tuesday of May. Grades will be A 0-13, B 14-20 and C 21-+.
Captain Robert (Dykes) was greeted the warmest of approval when announcing the change during his weekly address.
There was also any amount of glee shown when the captain advised that today's competition would be a 2BBB Stableford to bring to the end a lengthy period of strokes.
Just goes to show that the majority of our members are a fun-loving lot, eh!
