Assistant principal Kim Hodge told the Argus the school’s passionate kindergarten teachers have replanned their classroom programs to include more fun.
“The essential education of kindergarten has been enhanced using play-based learning in all subject areas,” she said.
Mrs Hodge said during literacy sessions, students have the option to choose their own activities and develop self-regulation.
“An additional teacher in the classrooms and individualised literacy lessons mean every child is reading with the teacher every day. Current research shows play-based learning enhances academic and developmental learning outcomes, and sets children up for success by teaching skills needed in the 21st century. This refocussing on fun has seen more smiles. Children are naturally motivated by play. These high quality, child focussed play-based programs build upon this motivation, much to the delight of students.”
