Participants were asked to enter a 30cm x 30cm art quilt themed around the annual challenge ‘Coastal Threads’.
For 2018 the theme was ‘Coastal Fringe’, which takes in coastal dwellers, coastal National Parks and the ever-changing face of the coastal fringe.
Open to all art quilters, textile artists and keen sewers, the prize accepts entries representing any use of fibre, threads and textiles and encourages the artist to explore traditional twists and non-traditional practices.
After being displayed in Urunga, these quilts will tour Australia to be exhibited and shared to promote textile art and the annual sewing retreat in Urunga called ‘Sewing Up a Coastal Storm’.
This year’s sewing retreat has 20 local and interstate participants and features award-winning international textile art quilter Susan Carlson from America.
