Saturday saw the fourth round at Coffs Harbour International Stadium, in perfect conditions both weather wise and the ground in pristine condition.
Saints started well and matched their opponents Boambee Bombers for much of the opening half. A drop in intensity with six minutes to go before the break saw Boambee score two quick goals.
The half time talk was positive and the second half saw some good passages of play from Saints but against a quality opposition it was a lesson in football for the younger Saints squad.
The final score was 5-0 but Saints were happy with their progression through the Cup to play at the stadium and much of what they did on the day was good. Boambee are currently first in the North Coast comp and easily progressed the following day to continue on to Newcastle over the June Long Weekend.
Saints other senior grades continued their campaigns last weekend. The Luke Flanagan coached Green Machine played out a 0-0 thriller against local rivals Lowie’s.
By all accounts it was a great game with both sides having chances to take full points. James Brady has the NL White side humming along this year and it was also a classy draw against Lake Cathie. No goals in that game either and this young side are starting to shape up under the tutelage of Brady.
The latest edition to join Saints Northern League is the NL-Saints, the “Mud dogs” are still building their game under coach Brett Sutherland and with new players joining the side each week, and it is starting to look like a complete roster.
When this side gets more consistency for 80 minutes they could make it very difficult for any team in the second round.
The Woman’s Northern League teams have also been doing well. The young gunettes, WNL- White had the bye and enjoyed a week off but will now be looking for full points this week to continue to move up the ladder.
The WNL- Green Machine hosted Camden Haven at Eden St and took full points in style with a 7-0 win and scoring the only goals of any Saints senior team over the weekend.
This Saturday sees Premier League travel to Laurieton; In the WNL ,Green has the bye and White takes on Port FC; In NL, Green takes on Port FC; White plays South West Rocks and the Muddies take on Lake Cathie.
