The first mural in Wallace Lane is all but complete with the next one on the Department Store wall due to begin shortly.
Last week Macksville Rotary members Rod Edwards and David Ainsworth put the finishing touches on the seating area at the Riverside Stage, adding timber cladding to the posts supporting the shade sails.
“It was always in the plan and now we have got the timber to complete it,” Rod said.
And at Thursday’s Nambucca Shire Council meeting councillors voted in favour of spending an additional $10,000 for the completion of architectural and design services for the Main Street Improvement Program.
This followed the engagement of Alan Rudge Architects in February for three months and $15,000 to begin the planning process.
That fee cap has been reached and extensive consultation with property owners in the CBD regarding the reinstatement of building verandahs and other features has been undertaken.
Strong interest was shown by seven businesses, including a number on River St as well as the Department Store on Wallace St and the Pharmacy Corner on Cooper Street.
In a report by the General Manager, Michael Coulter, it was recommended the council now close off the opportunity for further properties to come onto the program and fund additional expenditure to allow the completion of concept plans for each of the seven properties at an estimated cost of $10,000 for the completion of the concept plans to “DA standard”.
The councillors voted to support this recommendation.
