Paul O’Neill reports – winners last Thursday via the least ends won card were Ken McKelvie, Wayne Thompson and Greg Doolan who fought out a titanic struggle with Beau McKay's side, winning 19-17. Runners-up were Noel Matheson, Greg Kirkham and Lloyd Laird. Jackpot didn't go off so get down there this arvo for a roll with a chance at prizes and cash. Names in by 12.30 for a 1 o’clock start please.
A change in the line-ups brought a change of fortune for the Grade 4 pennants side as they celebrated their first win on Saturday against Sawtell at home. Craig Doolan's side got up 21-19, Matt Hopper enjoyed a long overdue win 23-18 and Geoff McKay's squad just got pipped 20-21 after a great fightback which saw them net 11 shots in the final five ends.
The Grade 6 side travelled to South West Rocks and it was Dean Roe's side who would break through for the first rink win of the campaign thanks to great lead up work from Gino, Kirko and a welcome return of Matt Barber. The other two sides just going down for a 45-62 loss on the big board. This weekend the 4s are at Park Beach and the 6s will host Kempsey Heights. Go Bowra!
Macksville Women
Judy Walker reports – this past week has been a busy one. We had the final of our singles championships with the winner being Fiona Medley who defeated Thelma Scott in an exciting final.
The first round of the triples was played with the winner being Elwyn Ainsworth, Thelma Scott and Fiona Medley. We also saw the second round completed with Joan Hosking, Judy Walker and Donna Soyka defeating Kaye Wood, Carol Turner and Janet Poletti in a close game. The final will be played in a fortnight with Fiona's team playing Donna Steel’s.
The social game was also played with Karen Liddell (swinging lead), Maria Fischer - visitor, Pam Wilkes and Fiona Medley winners over Karen, Nell Partridge, Thelma Scott and Donna Steel.
Trophy winners were Janet Poletti and Thelma Scott. Good luck to the ladies playing in the District Singles this week.
Macksville Men
Doug Smith reports – on Thursday the winners were a pairs game of Allan Smith and Brian Smith from Jye McAuliffe, Tony Pickvance and Brent Liddell. The jackpot is up to $126 so be there today for a chance to be in it.
The pennant results for round 5: Grade 6 Macksville had a close win over Port Panthers, taking the aggregate 60-53 and the points 9-1. This has Macksville on top of the point score of grade 6/2 with 38 points with South West Rocks in second place with 28 points.
Grade 7 defeated Park Beach 57-51 on the aggregate and 8-2 on the points. Macksville are in third place behind CEX on 40, Sawtell on 35, Macksville 29 points.
On Sunday John Steel played Callum Murray in the third round of the Zone 14 Champion of Club Champions, losing the match 30/31. This was an excellent match, with the lead changing almost end by end, but it was Callum who was able to secure the win then go on to win his semi-final in the afternoon.
Nambucca Heads Women
Pat Smith reports – results of Social Bowls played last Tuesday. The victors with the highest winning score were Sandra Seckold, Val Miles and Jean Schneider. Runners-up Moira Blair, Nan Long and Manor Smith.
Results Thursday Championship Triples: Vicki Wright, Margaret Lawrence and Lyn Hartman defeated Val Miles, Jean Schneider and Gloria Richardson in the first semi-final, 22 shots to 20. On Saturday in the second semi-final, Michelle Fredericks, Arlene Duffus and Pat Smith defeated Hermi Frank, Yani Mitchell and Bryony Brownley, 18 shots to 16. In both matches, the losing side got off to a good lead only to be pegged back. The final will be played on Saturday.
Nambucca Heads Men
Fred Pope reports – last Wednesday’s Club Selected Triples attracted a field of 26 bowlers. The $10 winners were Ian Jones, LA Smith and Mick Boyle. Second place $5 winners were Warren Gallop and Roger McGuigan. No third place was paid. The lucky losers’ prize went to Danny Curran and Fred Pope. The lucky bowler winning $15 was Roger McGuigan. The jackpot of $30 was not won.
On Friday, the Nominated Men’s Triples attracted 60 bowlers. The $15 first prize winners were John McCollum, Bob Sutton and Ray Hunt. The $10 prize winners were Bob Summerville, Chris Evans and Doug Cedelland. The third place $5 winners were Eric Kyle, Gary Tierney and Joe Franck. The winners of the lucky losers’ prize were Jack Phillips, Mike Ryan and Bill Blair. The lucky bowler was Bob Sutton. The Jackpot of $120 was not won.
Leans Newsagency Sunday Bowls was played by 22 bowlers. Winners were Cec Smith, Corrine Novus and Hans Oldenhove. Runners-up were Janice Cedelland, Mark Sinclair and Pat Smith. Encouragement award Kerri Dale.

Scotts Head Women
Kate Flippence reports – congratulations once again to Jo Everlyn and her team, Michelle Webber and Judy Hawkins on their success in our club triples final against a very formidable team of Julie Kay, Maree Hodgson and Joy Hardge. Great game girls. Also Jo made it through to the next round of the District singles on Monday so the best of luck for Tuesday.
Also played last Thursday was a social game of triples between Gary Bishop’s team of Norto and Joyce Pike taking the win from Janine Budge, Peter Bishop and Kate Flippence. Great game but luck was on their side for the day.
Scotts Head Men
Gary Bishop reports – in the last week, the final of the Minor Singles was played between G Dallwitz and P Bishop. The match was even throughout with Gary reaching the 30-shot milestone first. However, Peter was able to hold him at that and take a 31-30 victory.
Meanwhile, we travelled to Stuarts Point at the weekend for pennants and achieved an 8-2 win - returning us to second place on the ladder.
Rink winners for Wednesday May 23 were J McAuliffe, B Witt and D Scrivener with the consolation prize going to P Martin, C Moore and G Lynes.
Urunga Women
Pat Chapman reports – Urunga women bowlers held their Biggest Morning Tea on Tuesday May 22 and are pleased to announce that they raised $842 for the Cancer Council of NSW. They would particularly like to thank all the Urunga business houses who generously contributed goods for the raffles, the Urunga bakery who provided buns and cakes for morning tea and lunch and Club Urunga for donating the green fees. Special thanks also go to Noela McCabe for all her hard work in organising the day, to her helpers vice-presidents Margaret Baldwin and Pat Herrmann and to everyone who contributed to the success of the day.

Colin Cutt reports – on Tuesday, May 22, 83 golfers competed at Nambucca Heads Island Golf Course, in excellent conditions.

B Grade winner: Kevin Rafferty 33, 1st runner-up Geoff Knight 32 c/b, 2nd runner-up Geoff Richardson 32 c/b, 3rd runner-up Michael Dempsey 32 c/b.

Nambucca Heads Women
Jen Forne reports – it was perfect weather for Nambucca Valley Cranes Women’s Foursome Championship contested by 18 teams over 27 holes. Winning team of Darcy Habgood and Nicole Purser had a gross score of 141. Runners-up on 143 were the team of Denise Paluch and Kerry Naylor. Winners of the nett were Leanne Welsh and Heather Gray with a score of 109 on a countback from Lillian Lukins and Joy Green.
Nearest the pin on the 13th pizza hole was Heather Gray and on the 18th Sally Welsh. Thanks to Kerrie Jackson and Nambucca Valley Cranes for their sponsorship again this year for a hotly contested major event in the ladies calendar.
