‘Jason Owen Sings John Denver’, with special guest and local lad Angus Gill, will unfold at the Ex-Services Club.
Jason Owen Sings John Denver (album) debuted at #1 on the iTunes Country Albums chart and spent seven weeks on the ARIA Country Albums chart in 2017, culminating in a near sold out performance at the Sydney Opera House.
Performing some of John Denver’s most popular tracks, including Take Me Home, Country Road and Calypso, fans can also expect to hear Jason’s original hits.
Since the John Denver classic Annie’s Song launched him as a contestant on the X Factor in 2012, Jason has been making every step a winner.
His pop, the much-loved patriarch of his family, asked him again and again to do a tribute record for Denver. With his pop’s health on the decline and the 20th anniversary of the legend’s passing, Jason knew there was no better time for it.
Watch Jason Owen perform Calypso:
A labour of love, Jason’s fourth album, released mid-2017, is packed with songs that made John Denver a household name.
“I’ve put my own touch on each track but kept true to the uniqueness of John’s creativity,” Jason said.
Special guest Angus Gill from the Mid North Coast, is just 20 years of age, and already a phenomenon.
As somewhat of a veteran in the songwriting and performance stakes, the Wauchope-based entertainer’s infectious, yet thought-provoking songs, warm stage presence and trademark brand of humour is delighting audiences and festival goers, while an array of respected musical identities are also singing his praises.
Among them is Guy Sebastian, who recently tweeted, “Forget Duncan, I wanna have a beer with Angus.”
Watch Angus Gill perform Hands Are Clean:
Gill’s debut album Nomad, has rapidly begun to cement him in the hearts and minds of Australian music fans, peaking at #13 and spending several weeks on the ARIA Country Albums Charts. This is an album that contains an overarching theme of journeys, making it the perfect road-trip companion.
Not only has he co-written all the songs with the cream of the crop of the Australian music scene, including Adam Harvey, Gina Jeffreys, Luke O’Shea and Kevin Bennett, Angus also produced and mixed all 13 tracks on this debut album.
The album also features Angus teaming up with Kevin Bennett and Amos Morris on Staring Out The Back of a Car dealing with the tragedy of the Stolen Generation and he duets with Adam Harvey on P Plater, a track dealing with the realities of young drivers combining Angus and Adam’s senses of humour.
