South West Rock Community Catch Up
It was great to see around 80 people come along to last week’s Community Catch Up at South West Rocks Surf Club. Earlier in the afternoon, councillors took the opportunity for a site visit of key projects in the SWR area, including Back Creek Reserve where we have applied for grant funding to assist with amenities and picnic spaces. We also visited Horseshoe Bay Reserve where we will commence work soon on the coastal walkway. The facilitated workshop created a way for the community to share what they love about the Rocks, what challenges we face, where they want to see the village in years to come, and how council and the community can work together to achieve these goals.

The room was full of positive discussion and great suggestions for working to retain the natural beauty of the Rocks and the welcoming village atmosphere. Some good points were raised about involving the community in planning, improving communication and connections between the community and council, as well as practical points on pedestrian safety, upgrades to sporting facilities and improvements to the library.
Council has committed to continuing the conversation with a dedicated space on the Your Say Macleay website where notes from the catch-up can be reviewed and further comments sought, particularly on the proposed masterplans for Horseshoe Bay Reserve and Back Creek. We’ll then use all of this information to review and update the community plan.
Red Shield Appeal Lauched in the Macleay
I was delighted to raise the flag with Captain Jeff Bush to launch this year’s Red Shield Appeal in the Macleay Valley. We are lucky to have had the Salvation Army in our valley for many years, supporting the most vulnerable in our community when they need help to get through the tough times.
The Red Shield Appeal will run until the end of June and is the Salvation Army’s major fundraising drive, so please donate what you can to help them continue their services forthe community.
