Chloe Rootes and Jodie Simpson will attempt to conquer the half marathon at the Running Festival at South West Rocks this weekend and the two decided to raise funds for the Asthma Foundation Australia in the lead up to the event.
The pair placed charity tins at each of the counters at the Kempsey IGA store 11 days ago and were shocked when they were informed one had been stolen.
“The charity tin at the main counter was stolen, there would have been a couple of hundred dollars in there,” Ms Rootes told the Argus.
“I couldn’t believe it, it’s such a low act, to steal from a charity, it made me so upset.
“I reached a whole new level of disappointment.”
Ms Simpson was also devastated upon hearing the news.
“I was very angry at this person for stealing the money tin but I was also very upset at how someone could go so low to steal money from a charity,” she said.
“It’s also money from our local and loyal customers that they have kindly donated, this is not on and far from acceptable.”
The two will still compete in the half marathon and are hopeful they can raise even more funds for the charity organisation.
