The general concern of councillors and the community was the allowance of circuit training on public holidays.
Councillor Anna Shields added the amendment to the motion regarding the use of Kempsey Airport by the AIAC that the general manager re-negotiate with the AIAC and remove the allowance of circuit training on the four public holidays in the next six months.
This agreement would be in place until the Noise Management Plan, the Fly Neighbourly Agreement and Master Plan are negotiated in the December council meeting.
Mayor Liz Campbell threatened to close the council chambers during the meeting due to public outbursts while speakers were addressing the councillors.
President of the Save Kempsey Airport Action Group (SKAAG), Adam Ulrick, said SKAAG was disappointed with the decision of no reduction in the hours of circuit training.
“SKAAG remains shocked and disappointed about the general manager not even considering the operating hours of circuit training. We will remain in agreements and will continue to participate,” Mr Ulrick said.
Councillor Bruce Morris said there should be no circuit training on public holidays during the council meeting.
“I agree that public holidays is over the top,” Cr Morris said.
General manager Craig Milburn said re-negotiations with the AIAC will take place.
“We will certainly give it our best shot to re-negotiate with AIAC about flying on public holidays,” Mr Milburn said.
During this interim period of the next six months circuit training times will remain the same with the exception of during daylight savings time where it will increase from 7am to 7pm to 7am to 10pm on weekdays.
The general manager will also re-enter negotiations with the AIAC about circuit training on public holidays.
