The humble 13-year-old helped lead his side to fourth place, as he finished the national competition with the eighth best statistics in his age group.
A player’s bowling, batting, fielding and contribution to the team is combined to determine their overall ranking.
Cooper stoodout with the ball in hand while he racked up the runs while he was at the crease.
However, arguably Cooper’s greatest attribute is his fielding.
The St Paul’s College student has terrific instincts, a quick reaction time and constantly put pressure on the opposition batsman.
Cooper is hopeful his cricket ability will take a leap forward during the Junior World Series.
“The experience of playing against the best players from across the world in my age group will be really good,” Cooper told the Argus.
“It will be good to see the level of play and hopefully I can pick up a few things from other players and coaches.”
Cooper has been competing in indoor cricket competitions for the past three years and has fine tuned his skills under Macleay Indoor Sports and Development Centre coach Callan McKiernan.
“Callan helped me prepare for the carnival and gave me an understanding of how to attack the game in different scenarios,” Cooper said.
“I have improved my confidence as a cricketer and developed my game a lot since I started training in the academy.”
The Petterson family expressed their gratitude to a long list of people who had helped Cooper become the person and cricketer he is today.
“There have been so many people in Kempsey who have believed in Cooper and the belief rubbed off on him and it’s allowed him to play every cricket game with confidence,” Cooper’s mum Julianne said.
The Macleay was also represented by Mitch and Jackson Korn, Jye Woodger, Emma Ross and Jarrod Prosper at the Indoor Cricket National Championships.
The 2018 Junior World Series is held later this year with teams and a schedule yet to be confirmed.
