Assistant manager at Subway Kempsey, Justin Farrawell, recently competed in the ANZ finals on the Gold Coast in June 2018, and placed in the semi-finals among the fastest 15 sandwich artists.
With a time of just 49 seconds (prior to penalties) to make a foot-long sub, Justin was selected to represent 120 Northern NSW Subway restaurants at the bi-annual convention.
It was Justin's first time in the competition and he said it was challenging.
“It was nerve wracking to begin with, having to follow the rules and making sure I was fast enough,” Justin said.
“It was a great privilege though, and it was great to represent Kempsey as well.”
The Subway Sub Jammers competition is held across the world, with winners from every Subway region invited to compete at the brands annual global convention in Washington D.C. in August.
As part of the competition, each Sub Jammer is required to make a Subway Foot Long Ham with all the standard toppings where they are judged on speed, accuracy and overall sandwich appearance. The final score is based on the time to make a sandwich with points deducted for appearance and accuracy.
Justin fought valiantly for the title, but faltered at the last moment when the wrap paper stuck to the sandwich and slowed him down.
Subway Kempsey franchise partner and father, Benn Farrawell, said he’s proud to have had a sandwich artist from their own local restaurant competing against the best.
“Justin gave it his best shot and it was fantastic to see our restaurant and region represented so well. We’ll be training for the next two years to take the title,” he said.
